XPeng delivers 7,079 vehicles in Apr, largely flat from Mar

The P7i, which was launched in March, continues to gather strong order momentum and the company is significantly ramping up production, which will accelerate customer deliveries in the near future, XPeng said.  |  XPeng US | XPeng HK

XPeng's (NYSE: XPEV) deliveries in April were essentially flat compared with March, as the company appears to be on the cusp of emerging from a mire of weak sales.

The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker delivered 7,079 vehicles in April, down 21.36 percent from 9,002 a year ago but up 1.1 percent from 7,002 in March, according to data released today.

This is the third consecutive month-on-month gain in monthly XPeng deliveries, after about a year of weak sales.

XPeng did not provide model-specific breakdown figures for the models it currently sells, which include the flagship SUV G9, flagship sedan P7i, older P7, P5 and G3i.

The P7i sports sedan, launched in March, continues to gather strong order momentum, XPeng said, adding that the company is significantly ramping up production, which will accelerate customer deliveries of the P7i in the near future.

XPeng unveiled the new SUV G6 on April 18, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, which is based on the 800 V high-voltage platform and can get 300 kilometers of range in as little as 10 minutes on a charge.

XPeng did not announce specific specifications or pricing information for the G6, and they are expected to be known at the official launch event in the future.

The company's management previously said the G6 will be officially launched and delivered by the end of the second quarter, with a price range of RMB 200,000 - 300,000.

The G6's debut at Shanghai auto show generated remarkable enthusiasm among visitors, making XPeng's booth one of the most popular at the event, the company said today.

The model is scheduled to be officially launched at the end of the second quarter with deliveries immediately following, XPeng said, repeating its previous plans.

On April 16, XPeng unveiled its next-generation vehicle technology architecture, SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 2.0, on which the G6 is the first model to be based.

This architecture will shorten the development cycle of future models by 20 percent and optimize development efficiency significantly. Interchangeability and interoperability of common and modular components between new models will reach 80 percent, enabling XPeng to meet diverse customer needs at an optimized cost, it said at the time.

In April, the XPeng G9 received a third-class road test license in Guangzhou for passenger-carrying autonomous driving tests, XPeng said today.

The company expects to expand the G9's tests to all customers in Guangzhou's Huangpu district in the second half of the year, giving more customers access to new mobility experiences, it said.

Li Auto delivers record 25,681 vehicles in Apr, Li L7 delivers over 10,000-CnEVPost

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) saw record deliveries last month as the new, cheaper SUV, the Li L7, began to contribute significantly to sales.

The Chinese automaker delivered 25,681 vehicles in April, another monthly high while surpassing the 20,000-delivery mark for the second consecutive month, according to data released today.

This represents a 516.29 percent increase over the 4,167 units delivered in the same month last year and a 23.33 percent increase over the 20,823 units delivered in March.

As of the end of April, Li Auto has delivered a total of 335,599 units since its inception.

"We are pleased to have delivered over 10,000 Li L7s in its first full month of deliveries, establishing the vehicle as a preferred choice among five-seat premium SUVs for Chinese families while marking the first time a Chinese branded five-seat SUV priced above RMB300,000 has achieved this monthly delivery milestone," said Li Xiang, chairman and CEO of Li Auto.

"Regarding autonomous driving, we expect to release the city NOA for beta testing in Li AD Max 3.0 this quarter and target to roll out in 100 cities nationwide by the year end," he added.

Li Auto's three models currently on sale -- Li L9, Li L8 and Li L7 -- are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), which are essentially plug-in hybrids.

The big selling point of these models is that they don't have the range anxiety of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), as they can be charged as well as refueled.

Li Auto launched the Li L7, its first five-seat SUV, on February 8.

The Li L7 is the least expensive of its product array, with Pro as well as Max versions starting at RMB 339,800 ($49,160) and 379,800 respectively. The Li L7 has a lower-priced Air version available, starting at RMB 319,800.

Deliveries of the Li L7 Pro and the Li L7 Max begin on March 11, and deliveries of the Li L7Air begin in late April.

Li Auto also launched an Air version of the Li L8 alongside the Li L7 at a starting price of RMB 339,800. The Li L8 was previously available in Pro and Max versions at RMB 359,800 and RMB 399,800 respectively.

The Li L9 is currently only available in Max version with a starting price of RMB 459,800.

In terms of product planning, Li Auto aims to create a model portfolio of one super flagship, five EREVs and five BEVs by 2025 to meet the diverse needs of families in the price range of 200,000 yuan and above, Li said.

As of April 30, the company had 302 retail stores in 123 cities and 318 service centers and Li Auto-authorized body and paint stores in 222 cities.

NIO begins deliveries of EC7 coupe SUV earlier than originally planned

The EC7 was launched on NIO Day 2022, December 24, 2022, and NIO had planned to begin deliveries of the model in mid-May.

NIO (NYSE: NIO) began the first deliveries of the EC7 coupe SUV today, surprisingly ahead of its original schedule.

Deliveries of the NIO EC7 officially kicked off on April 28, the company said today on its mobile app, and shared several images.

NIO did not announce the number of EC7s delivered in the first batch, but said the company held delivery ceremonies in cities including Hefei, Shenzhen, Guiyang, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Taizhou and Nanjing.

The EC7 was launched on NIO Day 2022 on December 24, 2022, and the new ES8 was also launched at the event.

NIO announced plans at the time that deliveries of the EC7 would begin in May and deliveries of the new ES8 would begin in June.

The company began allowing consumers to lock in orders for the EC7 and test drive the vehicle on April 10. It said at the time that deliveries of customized vehicles for the EC7 would begin in mid-May.

The early start of EC7 deliveries could be part of NIO's effort to accelerate making its new models available to boost weak sales.

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, up 3.94 percent from 9,985 a year earlier but down 14.6 percent from 12,157 in February, according to figures it announced on April 1.

NIO's deliveries have been weak so far this month, with insurance registrations for its vehicles totaling slightly above 4,000 units from April 3 to April 23.

The EC7, NIO's second coupe SUV after the EC6, is 4,968 mm long, 1,974 mm wide and 1,714 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,960 mm.

For comparison, the EC6 is 4,850 mm long, 1,965 mm wide and 1,731/1,714 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.

NIO offers an intelligent dimming glass option for the EC7's roof, the first time the company has introduced this option in one of its models.

The EC7 has a wind resistance coefficient of just 0.23 Cd, which NIO said is the lowest of any mass-produced SUV in the world.

The model is equipped with a 180-kW permanent magnet motor up front and a 300-kW induction motor in the rear, allowing the motor to reach a combined peak power of 480 kW. The powertrain allows the EC7 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, making it NIO's fastest-accelerating SUV.

NIO currently offers three versions of the EC7, including a version with a 75-kWh standard range battery pack, a version with a 100-kWh battery pack, and a premiere version with a 100-kWh battery pack.

Including the battery, the starting prices for these three versions are RMB 488,000 ($70,560), RMB 546,000 and RMB 578,000 respectively.

Customers who choose NIO's battery rental program BaaS (battery as a service) to purchase the car will see the prices start at RMB 418,000 for both regular versions and RMB 450,000 for the premiere version. Their monthly battery rental costs are RMB 980 yuan, 1,680 yuan and 1,680 yuan respectively.

NIO's weak performance may be because it is on the eve of multiple product switches, as it will begin deliveries of the new ET7, new ES6, EC7 in May and will begin deliveries of the new ES8 in June.

(NASDAQ: TSLA) and (NASDAQ: LI) kept sales strong last week, while NIO (NYSE: NIO) was weak, the latest data show.

Li Auto sold 6,300 units in the week of April 10 to April 16, far outpacing China's other new car-making brands, the automaker said in an April 19 post to its WeChat account.

Li Auto didn't say what the sales figure was based on, but it was apparently insurance registrations. Previously, we had access to the data every Tuesday, and Li Auto's practice was to share some of it on Wednesdays.

NIO sold about 700 units last week, according to the data. The electric vehicle maker sold 1,316 units in the previous week.

NIO's weak performance may be because it is on the eve of multiple product switches. It launched the new ET7 and unveiled the new ES6 on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18, with deliveries both set to begin in May.

In addition to the new ET7 and the new ES6, NIO will also start delivering the EC7 coupe SUV in May and will start delivering the new ES8 in June, according to plans it previously annouced.
