More images of the NIO (NYSE: NIO) ET5 touring have been revealed, as the model gets closer to its official launch.

Auto blogger Delu shared several images of the model on the NIO App today, saying that NIO is filming promotional videos for the model in Norway.

"This is one of the top three touring models in my mind, they are the Volvo V60, Audi RS6 and now the ET5 Touring," the blogger wrote.

On May 9, CnEVPost obtained two spy photos of the ET5 touring appearing on the streets of Europe, showing that the car has the yellow color exclusive to the ET5 sedan sold in China.

CnEVPost has learned from a source is that the model is expected to make its official debut in Europe in June.

In January, NIO co-founder and president Qin Lihong said the company would launch the ET5 touring, a sister model of the ET5, in June or July.

That new variant of the ET5 will debut in Europe, where the model was developed primarily for European consumers, Qin said at the time.

Such models have a large market in Europe, while sales of sedans are low, which is the opposite of the situation in China, Qin said at the January event.

"Derivatives of sedans are a niche market in China, but the opposite is true in Europe. We don't see many real sedans in Europe," he said at the time.

In early March, the ET5 touring appeared on a filing list from Chinese industry regulators and its key specifications were revealed.

The NIO ET5 touring has a length, width and height of 4,790 mm, 1,960 mm and 1,499 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,888 mm, in line with the ET5 sedan.

It will be equipped with dual motors produced by NIO's electric drive systems division in Hefei, Anhui province, with a maximum power of 150 kW and 210 kW, respectively, and can support a top speed of 200 km/h.

As with several other NIO models based on the NT 2.0 platform, the NIO ET5 touring supports the option of a retractable electric tow hook, which can tow a maximum of 1,400 kg of caravan weight.

A more European-centric variant of NIO's (NYSE: NIO) ET5 electric sedan is getting closer to its official launch.

A NIO ET5 touring, the first of its kind to target the premium electric touring segment, has been spotted on the streets of Europe, according to spy photos obtained by CnEVPost today.

The car has the yellow color exclusive to the ET5 sedan sold in China, while its rear design clearly shows that it is a touring, or hatchback, style vehicle.

NIO will launch a touring version of the ET5, the ET5's sister model, in June or July, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's co-founder and president Qin Lihong said at an event in January, as previously reported by CnEVPost.

The touring variant of the ET5 will debut in Europe, and the model is developed primarily for European consumers, Qin said at the time.

CnEVPost has learned from a source that the model is expected to make its official debut in Europe in June. ET5 touring was previously referred to as ET5 shooting brake on many occasions.

Touring models have a large market in Europe, while sales of sedans are low, which is the opposite of the situation in China, Qin said at the January event.

"Sedan derivatives are a niche market in China, but the opposite is true in Europe. We don't see many real sedans in Europe," he said at the time.

The ET5 is the cheapest of the NIO product array, starting at 328,000 yuan ($47,410) in China.

The model's support for battery swap and beautiful design have made it a major contributor to NIO's sales in the past few months, selling around 6,000 units each month from January to March.

For NIO, the ET5 touring is likely to be the game changer for the company to see sales really start to grow in Europe, as local consumers prefer this kind of sedan variant.

It is worth noting that the ET5 touring will be available in China in addition to for European consumers.

At the beginning of March, the car appeared in a regulatory catalog of models that will be allowed to be sold in China, showing its exterior and core specifications.

China CPCA CPCA Ranking Electric eMobility eV EV Data Monthly Data Nio NIO ET5 NIO ET7 Top EVs

NIO ET5 ranks 7th in top-selling premium sedan list in China with 6,437 Mar sales

The models ahead of the ET5 are all from German luxury automakers Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.  |  US | NIO HK | NIO SG

The ET5, which has been the main seller for NIO (NYSE: NIO) in recent months, saw its position unchanged in a premium sedan ranking last month.

With 6,437 retail sales in March, the ET5 ranked No. 7 in China for premium sedan sales starting at more than 300,000 yuan ($43,560), according to a list released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The ranking is the same as in February, when the ET5 sold 6,471 units at retail, as previously reported by CnEVPost.

The ET5 is the least expensive of the NIO product array, with a starting price of RMB 328,000. Deliveries of the model begin on September 30, 2022.

NIO delivered 10,378 vehicles in March, including 3,203 SUVs, and 7,175 sedans, according to figures the company announced on April 1.

Considering that NIO's sedans are only ET7 and ET5, this means that ET7 delivered 738 units in March.

The ET7 delivered 649 units in February. Earlier today, NIO announced that in addition to the new ES6, it will launch the 2023 ET7 on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 18.

Except for the ET5, none of the other models in the premium sedan sales ranking are battery-electric vehicles. The models with higher sales than the ET5 are all from German luxury car companies Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.

The Audi A6L topped the list, with 15,614 retail sales in March, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class ranked second with 14,145 units and the BMW 3 Series third with 13,924 units.

In January-March, the NIO ET5 ranked seventh with 18,703 units sold at retail. The model was No. 6 on the January-February list with 12,266 units sold.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was the best-selling premium sedan in China in the first three months with 40,261 units sold. The Audi A6L ranked second with 40,246 units. The BMW 3 Series ranked 3rd with 37,151 units.

As in March, the premium sedans that sold more than the ET5 in January-March were all from German luxury car companies.

NIO begins ET5 deliveries in Europe

ET7 deliveries in Europe began last October, and EL7 deliveries there began at the end of January.  |  NIO US | NIO HK | NIO SG

NIO (NYSE: NIO) began ET5 deliveries in Europe on March 31, the day before it opened its second NIO House in Germany.

The company saw the first deliveries of the electric sedan in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands, according to the information posted on the Chinese and European versions of the NIO App.

NIO co-founder and president Qin Lihong was in Germany to witness the first ET5 deliveries there.

No information has been released about ET5 delivery figures in Europe. The company is expected to announce its deliveries of all vehicles in March later today.

NIO launched the ET7, ET5 and the EL7, known in China as the ES7, in Europe last October. ET7 deliveries began in Europe last October, and EL7 deliveries began at the end of January.

NIO initially only allowed European consumers to lease vehicles through NIO Subscription, with purchase options available starting in late November.

These products are made available for order gradually in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden through the NIO Subscription, lease program and direct sales to customers, NIO said on November 1 last year while announcing delivery figures for October.

The announced delivery volume represents vehicle deliveries through direct sales to users as well as to the leasing program partner in Europe in accordance with the revenue recognition policy of the company's vehicle sales, NIO said at the time.

The vehicles under NIO Subscription in Europe are recognized as assets on the company's balance sheet, but are not counted in the announced deliveries, according to the company.

The day before deliveries of ET5s began in Europe, NIO opened a new NIO House in Frankfurt, its second in Germany.

NIO ES7 and ET5 wait times become shorter

Wait times for both the ES7 and ET5 are now around 3 weeks, compared to 4-6 weeks and 3-4 weeks respectively.  |  NIO US | NIO HK | NIO SG

NIO's (NYSE: NIO) ES7 SUV and ET5 sedan have slightly shorter wait times in China, after the expected delivery dates for the two models became longer half a month ago.

The NIO ES7 now has an expected delivery date of about 3 weeks, down from the previous 4-6 weeks, information from the NIO App monitored by CnEVPost shows.

NIO ET5 also has a current expected delivery date of about 3 weeks, down from 3-4 weeks previously.

On March 14, the wait time for the ES7 went from about 3 weeks to 4-6 weeks, and the ET5 went from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 weeks.

NIO App is currently showing eight models, including the ES8, ES6, and EC6 based on the NT 1.0 platform, and the new ES8, ES7, EC7, ET7, and ET5 based on the NT 2.0 platform.

The EC7 and the new ES8 were unveiled at NIO Day 2022 held on December 24, 2022, and deliveries will begin in May and June, respectively.

The wait time information is unchanged today for all models except for the ES7 and ET5.

The NIO App stopped showing the expected delivery time for the ET7 on March 13, and that information is still not displayed.

Late last night, a local media report said that the current NIO ET7 has been discontinued and its annual facelift may be unveiled during the Shanghai auto show next month.

The current ET7 has some minor interior issues, and the revamped version will be optimized and will also further enhance the quality of the interior, D1EV quoted a salesperson at an NIO store in Beijing as saying.

NIO is no longer accepting customized orders for the ET7, and consumers who buy the model now will only have the option of available stock cars, the report said.
